GNC is based in Pittsburgh, USA. They sell everything from vitamins, minerals, to bodybuilding protein powders like Wheybolic Ripped.

However, even if you’re from outside of USA, you can buy their products. They ship all over the world.

Ingredients

Right off the bat, you’ll notice Wheybolic Ripped is far different from your regular protein powder.

In addition to providing you whey protein isolate, it also has extra amino acids, digestive enzymes, and certain fat burning ingredients.

The goal of this is to enhance your overall performance, not just to pump up your muscles.

There’s one proprietary blend inside, which is not good. But it won’t make a huge difference if the formula overall is solid – let’s find out if it is:

Whey Protein Isolate

This is the main and usually the only ingredient in whey protein powders. However, in Wheybolic Ripped, it’s one of many ingredients aimed at helping you build muscle and lose fat.

Whey is a component of milk. High-quality whey protein is easy on your digestion, meaning your body can quickly absorb and utilize it. Whey is rich in various compounds that are not only good for muscle hypertrophy but also your immune system and general health.

BCAAs

Amino acids are building blocks of protein, and are the basis for life. There are 20 amino acids that make up countless proteins in your body.

Out of those 20, there are 9 that your body can’t produce. They are essential amino acids that you can only get through your diet.

Further slicing it down, out of those 9 amino acids, there are 3 that are called branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). BCAAs are the ones that show the most benefits for your muscle strength, recovery, and hypertrophy. (1)

So, what are these 3 BCAAs called?

They’re called:

  • L-Leucine – This one is thought to be the most beneficial amino acid for muscle growth, strength, and recovery.
  • L-Isoleucine – Another BCAAs that’s essential because your body can’t make it on its own.
  • L-Valine – Promotes muscle growth and repair, along with stimulating your mental performance. It’s sort of a nootropic in a sense.

Glutamine

Out of all the amino acids, glutamine is the most abundant one in your body. It helps with muscle repair, boosts your immune system, and keeps your gut cell walls impermeable. (3)

However, whenever your body is injured – be it from weight training which causes small micro-tears in muscles or actual physical injury – your glutamine blood levels go down.

Supplementing with glutamine is good if you train hard and often, as it can accelerate the muscle repair process.

Chromium

As we move down the ingredient list, you’ll notice more and more ingredients that are aimed at fat loss. One of these is chromium, a trace mineral that helps to regulate your blood sugar levels.

It’s not technically a fat burner, but it’s more like a fat-blocker.

Because it reduces insulin and blood sugar spikes, chromium will help you prevent gaining fat. Especially if you love to snack on carbs often. (4)

Protein Digestive Enzymes

The name explains it all. Digestive enzymes in Wheybolic Ripped help your body absorb and utilize the protein and other ingredients in this supplement. It’s a great ingredient to have in a product like this.

Caffeine

Now, this is a real fat burner. Caffeine is probably the strongest fat burning ingredient you’ll see in Wheybolic Ripped.

From stimulating your metabolism to making you sweat more, caffeine will speed up your fat loss and make your workouts better. It also enhances certain cognitive aspects, including focus, motivation, and drive. (5)

The only issue with caffeine is that it’s a stimulant. As such, it may not be for you if you’re sensitive to these kinds of ingredients. That said, Wheybolic Ripped uses a fairly light dose of caffeine – 75mg per serving. This shouldn’t cause you issues unless you’re really intolerant.

Water Balance Blend

This is essentially a diuretic blend. It makes you lose water. This, in turn, will give you that dry, more ripped look. It’s what bodybuilders do before a contest when they try to lose those last few pounds.

However, this isn’t super healthy to do all the time. If you drink these diuretics every day, it could lead to dehydration. Make sure to drink plenty of water to prevent that from happening.

Another thing we have to mention is that this is a proprietary blend. Which means there’s no way for you to tell the dosages of ingredients in it.

Why is this a problem?

Because you can’t asses the ingredient safety if you don’t know how much you’re getting.

Here’s what we have in this blend:

  • Dandelion Extract – Probably the strongest diuretic in this blend. You may be annoyed by the number of times it will send you to the bathroom. (6)
  • Hawthorn Extract – It’s an anti-inflammatory ingredient with general health properties. There’s not much to it in terms of fat loss, though.
  • Potassium Chloride – An essential mineral that your body needs for maintaining a healthy water balance, among other things.
  • Hibiscus Powder – It’s not a bad ingredient, but for a fat burner, there are many better options to take its place.
  • Uva Ursi Leaves Powder – Uva Ursi grows in cold climates. It has fruit which bears love to eat. It’s great for combating urinary tract infections. There’s not much more to it than that, though.

L-Carnitine

Carnitine is one of those ingredients that don’t stop appearing in fat burners, despite the lack of evidence for their supposed benefits. (7)

Unless you’re severely deficient in this amino acid (which is hard to be because our body naturally produces it). You’ll find it quite ineffective for your goals.

Anything Missing?

Far from it. It’s a great supplement for helping you build muscle and maybe improve recovery time.

But if you often reach for snacks during the day (even though you know you shouldn’t), then you need a good appetite suppressant. Unfortunately, Wheybolic Ripped doesn’t have one.

How to Take (Dosage)

You’re instructed to take 2 scoops of Wheybolic Ripped with any kind of beverage. Water, milk, whatever you prefer. Of course, if your goal is fat loss, you’ll want to go with a low-calorie option.

The label says that you can take up to 2 scoops, twice daily for maximum results.

You can take Wheybolic Ripped in the morning, before your workouts, after your workouts, or whenever is more convenient to you.

The label also states that you should use this product as a “food supplement.” As well as that, the producers say (in very small letters) to not use this product for weight reduction.

These statements are written in the dark backend of the supplement label, in letters so small that you’d hardly notice them if you were just casually looking at the supplement.

Side Effects

There shouldn’t be any side effects from Wheybolic Ripped, as long as you stick to the dosage instructions.

That said, you should watch out if you’re sensitive to stimulants. Caffeine in Wheybolic Ripped can make you jittery and anxious if you go overboard with the dosage.

There are reviews of Wheybolic Ripped on Amazon, with an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars.

Plenty of users are happy with the taste and how well it mixes with water.

One user said: “This is my favorite protein powder ever and trust me I’ve been around the GNC block. The taste and consistency are perfect. Blends easy and gainz are real.”

That said, some users would beg to differ when it comes to the taste.

Dan McKey said: “The scooper is freaking enormous. I did 2 scoops which feels more like 4 or 5. I couldn’t even mix it in because it’s so thick, so I just have this gross fudgey sludge. Also, the taste is atrocious. Even with 1 scoop, it tastes too fudgey and thick. I might toss this and go back to my old whey, which is a shame because it’s expensive as all hell.”

It seems that some users agree the price could be lower. What’s more, some of them feel that the results don’t exceed those of a regular whey protein powder.

We feel the price is a bit too much, even for a brand as big as GNC.

The cost per serving is far beyond what most fat burners or whey proteins charge. In our opinion, if you’re looking to build muscle, the good old standard whey protein will do. And if your goal is to cut back fat faster, then there are much stronger weight loss supplements out there that also happen to be better value for money.

Whey protein supplements have been around for ages. What’s fascinating is that their popularity hasn’t diminished one bit. In fact, it’s grown even more over the years.

And for good reason.

A good whey protein will speed up your muscle growth and enhance recovery. Some more ambitious ones, like Wheybolic Ripped, aim to boost your fat loss too.

However, the lack of appetite suppressants and other fat loss ingredients makes you realize that there’s nothing special about this supplement. Except for the price, which is very high.

You’d be better off with a good old regular whey protein. It’s cheaper and works just as well.

And if you want to burn fat faster, and reduce your food cravings along the way, consider getting a fat burner with a proven formula.
